📝 Does Metro have bed bugs?

November 1, 2023

Good morning, Madison!

Now that Terrace Season is officially over and we’ve all witnessed the first snow of the season, it’s time to put away the pitchers and break out the crock pots because soup season is here.

And I want to hear from you! What’s the best soup in Madison?

⚖️ Evers Sues Republicans

  • Democratic Gov. Tony Evers has filed a lawsuit against Republicans in the Wisconsin State Legislature alleging they have violated the Wisconsin Constitution and intruded into executive powers. [WPR]
  • The lawsuit uses three instances to make its case— first when Republicans blocked pay raises for Universities of Wisconsin employees, again when the Republican-controlled Joint Committee on Finance blocked conservation projects, and finally when the finance committee blocked updates to the state's commercial building standards.
  • “[W]e argue that, as courts in other jurisdictions have, the Wisconsin Supreme Court should hold that legislative vetoes of executive branch acts are unconstitutional,”  Attorney General Kaul said in a statement. [Gov. Evers]

🚌 Metro Has Bed Bugs

  • Don’t panic. Metro says it has “only visually verified two bed bugs” and doesn’t believe the issue to be widespread at this time. The buses and areas of the Metro Transit building where bugs were spotted have been treated. Metro is expected to follow up with another inspection to make sure the bugs are gone in the coming weeks. [WKOW]
  • Take action: If you spot a bed bug on the bus, Metro wants to know about it. You can call 608-266-4466 or email [email protected].

🧶 Meet the Textile Arts Center

  • Two local textile artists recently opened the Textile Arts Center of Madison behind the old Oscar Mayer plant at 2436 Pennsylvania Ave. The center will operate as a nonprofit and host workshops, exhibitions, and resell donated art supplies. There are five classes planned for the rest of this year that will teach participants how to repair clothes, make papier-mâché ornaments, and more. [Textile Arts Center]
  • The new spot represents part of a growing arts district in the neighborhood, where within walking distance you can find clay studio The Kiln Shed, fine art printer Tandem Press, and makerspace The Bodgery. [Cap Times]

🏕️ Reservations Open for Dane County Parks

  • Reservations for Dane County campsites, shelters, and park permits open Nov. 1 for the 2024 season. The county operates four campgrounds within 10 miles of downtown Madison, and 26 shelters for get-togethers of all kinds. [Dane county]
