What's CITY Talking About?
🏫 UW Rebuts Online Misinformation
- Last week, conservative commentator and former NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch shared a claim on social media about alleged antisemitic protests outside UW Hillel. The anonymous claims of hate speech and other antisemitic actions, however, were “significantly exaggerated, according to numerous eyewitness accounts from university and Hillel staff members and members of UWPD.” [UW-Madison]
- What happened: There was a peaceful protest outside of Hillel the evening of Oct. 25. Several students inside the building needed assistance from police to feel safe exiting. Madison police were present but there was no reported violence or threatening chants from protesters. [UW Hillel Foundation / Facebook]

🍻 Local Brewers Support Wildfire Relief
- The global beer community is rallying in support to help those impacted by the recent wildfires in Hawaii. In Wisconsin, several breweries in the state are releasing The Kōkua Project. The beer’s proceeds will benefit the Global Empowerment Mission, a nonprofit that’s assisting with needs on the ground following the Maui fire disaster. [Maui Brewing Co.]
- Some of the Wisconsin breweries participating in the fundraiser include 3 Sheeps Brewing, Young Blood Beer Company, and MashTun Brewing.
🚨 Interested in Public Safety and Mental Health?
- This week, District 7 Ald. Nasra Wehelie and District 20 Ald. Barbara Harrington-McKinney will host a virtual lunch-and-learn session focused on public safety and mental health in Madison. Madison Police chief Shon Barnes, Madison Police captain Kelly Beckett, and Madison Fire assistant chief Ché Stedman will give updates on citywide public safety initiatives and talk about the Community Alternative Response Emergency Services (CARES) program. [City of Madison]
- Mark your calendar: The session is Nov. 9 at 12 p.m.
- Learn more: The CARES program has fielded thousands of calls since it launched in 2021. Dig deeper into why it’s working. [City Cast Madison]

How Republicans Plan to Win Dane County Votes
You may not think of deep-blue Dane County, home to liberal Madison, as important to Republicans. But Dane County is one of the top three sources of Republican votes in statewide elections. Republicans hope to shore up their chances of winning Wisconsin in next year’s Presidential election by making inroads in Democratic areas.
