What's CITY Talking About?

🦡 U Rah-Rah
- The Big Ten recently announced conference matchups for 2024 and next season is going to be a big one for the Badgers. Wisconsin will start the season with three home games, including one against the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide. [UW Athletics]
✨ Lighting Up University Ave.
- Speaking of the holidays, the 27th annual University Avenue Holiday Lights will return Nov. 17 this year. The tradition promotes inclusivity and festivity, and takes dozens of volunteers and countless lights to pull off.
- New this year: The parade of lights will be book-ended on both sides by experimental laser lights designed by Madison lighting engineer Bruce Winkler, who also created the GLEAM art exhibit at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. [NBC15]
🍝 Now (Kinda) Open: Fabiola’s
- A new combination grocery store, deli, and restaurant on Regent Street is opening in phases. Fabiola’s Spaghetti House and Deli opened for lunch last week serving soups, sandwiches, and more from its deli counter. [Isthmus]
- Later this year, the spot will also open for sit-down dinner serving classic Italian menu items like chicken Vesuvio, veal parmesan, and pasta puttanesca. [Wisconsin State Journal]

Happy Take Me Home Tuesday!

Today, Dane County Humane Society would like to introduce you to Fig. She’s an adult gerbil who came to DCHS with six other female gerbils. Fig is looking to go to a home with one or maybe two of her friends (what’s a girl to do without her BFFs?). Fig and her friends are pretty active and enjoy exploring their cage and running through paper towel and toilet paper tubes. Gerbils need a covered cage because they can jump fairly high and they need a variety of toys to avoid getting bored.
Now through Nov. 10, the adoption fees for all critters – including gerbils – have been reduced by 50%. Stop by DCHS to find your critter soulmate!

But Dr. Ana Pearson says there’s reason for caution.
