🚫 White Supremacists Rally in Madison

  • A group of neo-Nazis marched in Madison over the weekend, clad in ski masks, carrying flags with swastikas and spewing racist and antisemitic rhetoric along the way. The roughly 20 men were part of the white supremacist Blood Tribe group, whose views emphasize hyper-masculinity, racism, and antisemitism. They marched up State Street to the Capitol before heading to James Madison Park where they stopped outside Gates of Heaven, which is the fourth oldest surviving synagogue building in the nation but is no longer in use as a place of worship. [Wisconsin Examiner, SPLC, City of Madison]
  • The bigger picture: This is not the group’s first time in Wisconsin. In July, they protested a Pride event in Watertown. The group has become increasingly active since its founding in 2021, claiming to have chapters across the U.S. and Canada. [Our Lives]

🥩 Meet Draper Brothers Chophouse

  • The former owner of Rare Steakhouse and the Ivory Room Piano Bar has opened his latest venture on the Capitol Square at 101 N. Hamilton St. The high-end steakhouse’s menu features items like rack of lamb, osso buco, an array of steaks, homemade pasta, and seafood.
  • Who are the Draper Brothers? “The Draper Brothers were butchers,” owner Jack Sosnowski told Madison Magazine. “This was a meat market for 70 years at this location. They lived on this level and they worked the meat market downstairs, dating all the way back to literally delivering meat to the troops at Camp Randall.” [Draper Brothers, Madison Magazine]

❄️ Lunchtime Read: Epic’s ‘extreme weather’ policy infuriates workers as winter approaches

  • “Wisconsinites are preparing for winter weather, especially Epic Systems’ 13,000 employees. They may have to travel through ice and snow to the electronic health records company’s sprawling Verona campus, even though many employees say they can easily do their jobs at home.

    ‘Everyone’s angry.’” [Tone Madison]

Happy Take Me Home Tuesday!

Could you be Bunny's forever family? (Dane County Humane Society)

For this Take Me Home Tuesday, Dane County Humane Society would like you to meet Bunny. While she may hop about the yard playing like a bunny, this cutie is a 2-year-old dog. Bunny is a treat-motivated pup who’s been working with staff and volunteers on her manners, including sit, keeping all paws on the ground, and walking better on leash. She enjoys attention and can be quite the talker when she’s playing or wants snuggles and belly rubs.

Bunny plays well with other dogs and has enjoyed joining a puppy play group at the shelter. Bunny is looking for a family who will continue to work with her on her positive reinforcement training and spoil her with lots of cuddles, kisses, and treats.

Please note, the shelter is closed on Wednesdays and will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23, for Thanksgiving.

Why Madison’s Turkeys Are Thriving

Madison is a good place to be a wild turkey. But while there’s no shortage of turkeys strutting the streets of Madison these days, this wasn’t always the case. Wild turkeys were nearly hunted to extinction in Wisconsin in the late 19th century. In the 1970s, a concerted effort by conservationists brought them back.
