📝 Parking rates will go up in 2024
December 5, 2023
Good morning, Madison!
Did you catch the Packers game over the weekend? It was a star-studded event.
World champion and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles was in attendance supporting her husband, Packers safety Jonathan Owens. Pop star Taylor Swift was also at Lambeau supporting Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. And last, but certainly not least, Actor and Green Bay Native Tony Shalhoub cheered on the Packers from the sidelines.
The Packers won the game, 27-19. Sorry, Swifties.

What's CITY Talking About?

💸 Parking Rate Increases
- It’s about to become more expensive to park in city facilities. The City of Madison Parking Division has announced rate increases for 2024. This includes changes at the State Street Capitol garage, State Street campus garage, Capitol Square North garage, Overture Center garage, South Livingston Street garage, and the Wilson lot.
- The rate changes were approved in November. The money generated will be used for continued maintenance, improved services, and to ensure safe and comfortable parking structures.

💥 Brace For Nighttime Jets
- Madisonians may hear a familiar (and loud) sound coming from the skies this week. Through Dec. 7, pilots with the 115th Fighter Wing will conduct another round of nighttime F-35 flight training. Residents of the north and east sides can expect to hear jets taking off and landing until roughly 7 p.m.
- This week isn’t the last of nighttime noise. More evening training is also scheduled for Dec. 11-14.
- Did you know: With a 2021 Department of Defense budget investment of $11.4 billion, the federal F-35 program is the most expensive weapon in US history. [Channel 3000, City Cast Madison]
🚮 Drop-off Sites on Winter Hours
- The Streets Division drop-off sites at 4602 Sycamore Avenue and 402 South Point Road are now on winter hours and the drop-off site at 121 E. Olin Avenue is closed for the season. So if you have trash to get rid of, make sure you double check the business hours before heading out! [City of Madison]

Happy Take Me Home Tuesday!

Dane County Humane Society would like you to meet Giles. Giles came to DCHS from an overcrowded shelter in Texas in April and was adopted shortly after, but things didn’t work out so he was returned to DCHS. This 10-month-old pup can be nervous with new people, but when he warms up, he enjoys belly rubs, attention, and snuggles. He’s an energetic pup who loves going for walks and hikes, and overall walks very well on leash. He also enjoys playing with other social dogs and running around in the yard.
Giles is looking for a home with humans who are teen-aged and older, and a family who will continue to work with him on his positive reinforcement training and help him build his confidence while also spoiling him with fun adventures, treats, and snuggles. If your home has another social dog Giles could befriend, he would enjoy that too!
