📝 Sheriff's Dept. getting body cams

February 5, 2024

Happy Monday, Madison!

In case you missed it, neither Punxsutawney Phil or Jimmy the groundhog saw their shadows on Friday, which means an early spring is on the horizon. Fingers crossed those little critters are right.

🚨 Sheriff’s Dept. Piloting Body Cams

  • The Dane County Sheriff’s Office West District will test out using body-worn cameras for one year. The goal of the pilot program is to increase transparency between the Sheriff’s Office and the communities it serves.
  • The West Precinct serves the townships of Berry, Black Earth, Blue Mounds, Cross Plains, Dane, Mazomanie, Middleton, Montrose, Oregon, Perry, Primrose, Roxbury, Springdale, Springfield, Vermont, Verona, Vienna, and Westport. Residents of these communities are invited to participate in public information meetings about the project later this month. [WMTV15, Dane County]

🥕 Goodbye, Harvest

  • After 20 years of business, Harvest on the Capitol Square announced it won’t reopen after its pandemic-induced shutdown. Harvest opened in 2000 serving fine dining cuisine. In 2005, its sister restaurant opened, the wildly popular Old Fashioned. The owner decided to permanently close Harvest, which has been on hiatus since 2020, to focus her attention more fully on the Old Fashioned. [Wisconsin State Journal]
