📝 Winter Carnival is on

February 8, 2024

Good morning, Madison!

I may have made our first installment of “Where is it?” a bit too easy because y’all are crushing it. I’ll reveal the answer next week but you can bet these will get harder!

🚌 Learn More About Metro

  • Madison’s Metro Transit is hosting a series of informational sessions to help people better understand and navigate the bus system. Metro employees will talk about different options for getting around the city, including buses, BCycles, and beyond.
  • The details: The first session is today, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Library. [Madison Public Library]

❄️ Despite the Weather, Winter Carnival is Still On

  • Despite the mild temps, the Wisconsin Union’s annual Winter Carnival is in (more or less) full swing. The ice events have been canceled due to our early spring but the Union says an appearance from the time-honored Lady Liberty statue will still happen. You can check out the full schedule of events here. [Wisconsin Union]

🗳️ Dane County Executive Race Grows

  • Dane County Board Supervisor Dana Pellebon and Office for Equity and Inclusion Director Wes Sparkman have entered the race for Dane County Executive.
  • Madison City Council member Regina Vidaver and state Sen. Melissa Agard both launched campaigns in 2023. Outgoing County Executive Joe Parisi has endorsed Agard for the role.
  • A primary for the race will be held Aug. 13, and the general election will be Nov. 5.
  • Dig deeper: What does the county executive do anyway? City Cast Madison caught up with Parisi to understand how the role impacts our community. [Cap Times, City Cast Madison 🎧]

The Pop-Up Dinner Party that Madison’s Crushing On

It can be hard to make friends as an adult, and harder yet to be social in public on your own. That’s the idea behind “Don’t Cook for Cowboys,” dinner parties you can bring your friends to, or your kids, or your parents, or just your own self.
