What's CITY Talking About?
💰 Madison Teachers Won’t Settle
- Facing a dreary budgetary outlook next year, the Madison Metropolitan School District has proposed freezing staff wages. But workers with Madison Teachers Inc. — the union that represents more than 2,700 district employees — say they won’t accept anything less than a 4.12% increase.
- The district will formally release its budget in April. The school board will approve a preliminary budget in June and everything gets finalized in October, once enrollment numbers are in.
- Similar to the City of Madison, MMSD is facing budgetary woes as the last of its federal COVID-19 relief fund have been used and other funding approved in 2020 is set to expire. [Cap Times, Isthmus]
🏘️ Addressing Housing Concerns on the North and East Sides
- Madison’s Equal Opportunities Commission is hosting a public meeting Thursday to discuss “the surge in housing complaints within the community and provide residents with a platform to voice their concerns,” according to the city.
- The details: The meeting will kick off at 5:30 p.m at the Lakeview Madison Public Library. Light refreshments will be served.
- Related: Madison homeless shelters are overflowing, linked to housing shortage
🔊 Watch Out for Jets
- The Wisconsin Air National Guard announced it will be conducting nighttime training flights this week and next at Madison’s Truax Field. Evening training flights are set to run this week through Thursday and March 18-21. The training should be wrapped up by 9:15 p.m. but expect elevated noise levels.

Take Me Home Tuesday

Happy Take Me Home Tuesday! This week, Dane County Humane Society would like you to meet Archer. He’s an adult pup whose blue eyes will mesmerize you. Archer loves belly rubs and will snuggle up for massages. When Archer first arrived at the shelter in early February, he didn’t know how to walk on leash. Staff and volunteers have been working with this smart pup and his leash walking skills have greatly improved. He’s also been learning to sit, leave it, down, and more, but don’t forget to reward this sweet pup with some yummy treats.
Archer can be fearful with some new experiences, so he’s looking for a family with husky experience who will continue to build his confidence and work with him on his positive reinforcement training. He’s looking for a home with no small children, small dogs, cats, or other small pets.
