📝 Snow is on the way

March 21, 2024

Good morning, Madison!

So far this week, y’all have read my pieces about why membership is so important for Madison Minutes. Today, I wanted to share a note from Kathy K., one of our newest members, on why she supports our work.

“The podcast and newsletter do a great job informing me about current news and activities. It’s really one of the best ways to stay informed about happenings in the city.”

Thank you, Kathy!

If Madison Minutes and City Cast Madison help you feel more informed about our city, consider supporting our work with membership (plus there are perks!).

What's CITY Talking About?

❄️ Watch For Snow

  • In case you forgot, (or if you’re like me and live in a blissful state of delusion) it’s March in Wisconsin, which means snow is lurking around every corner. Temperatures have dropped and snow storms starting tonight are expected to impact commutes on Friday morning. [WMTV15]

🛍️ The Night Market Is Expanding

  • The Madison Night Market will be bigger than before when it returns this later year. Organizers have announced the market is expanding onto the Capitol Square and will now host vendors on North Carroll and West Mifflin Streets, in addition to State and Gilman Street.
  • The details: There will be five markets this year, May 9, June 13, Aug. 8, Sept. 12, and Oct. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m. The market features local artists, vendors, food trucks, music, and more. [Channel 3000]

💸 A Big Gift For Centro Hispano

  • The local nonprofit has received a $2 million gift from Yield Giving, a foundation established by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The donation is the final piece of funding needed for Centro’s new $20 million, 25,000-square-foot home in South Madison.
  • Centro Hispano provides programs and services that support Dane County's Latino population. The organization was founded in 1983 and serves more than 2,500 families each year.
  • The organization has been fundraising for this project for two years. The new building will open with a public celebration April 26. [Madison365, Centro Hispano]

Why Morris Ramen Closed

It’s the end of an era for Morris Ramen. After seven years, the downtown Madison restaurant best known for its heaping bowls of handmade noodles and broth has shut its doors. Bianca Martin catches up with co-owner Fran Hong about why they closed.
