📝 Alder accusations

April 1, 2024

Happy Monday, Madison!

Any Bachelor fans out there? Turns out the next season’s star has a Madison connection. Jenn Tran is set to be "The Bachelorette’s” first-ever Asian American lead and she’s a UW-Madison graduate. Maybe she’ll give Bucky a rose?

What's CITY Talking About?

⚖️ Alder Accused of Domestic Abuse

  • Please note the link in this story contains descriptions of domestic abuse.
  • Two women have recently come forward with allegations of domestic violence by District 18 Alder Charles Myadze. Through an attorney, Myadze denied the accusations, which allegedly took place in the early 2000s.
  • One of the accusers recently called on City Council to hold a vote of no confidence, which she hopes will be the first step toward removing him from office. Removing an alder from office for cause can only happen after a hearing and a three-fourths vote of the entire council.
  • Myadze was elected to City Council representing part of the north side in 2021 after defeating incumbent Rebecca Kemble. He was reelected in 2023. [Madison365]

🗑️ Expanded Drop-off Site Hours

  • Starting today, the city’s Streets Division drop-off sites will operate on their expanded summer hours. Drop-off sites are located at 402 South Point Road and 4602 Sycamore Ave. These sites accept pretty much all kinds of waste, including large items like appliances, electronics, and scrap metal. Welcome to our newest newsletter segment, Local History! In this section we’ll be talking about all things — you guessed it — history. Here we’ll take a look at the good, bad, and just-plain-weird moments in Madison and Wisconsin history.

⚾ In honor of the 2024 Major League Baseball season kicking off last week, this week’s piece of history is about America’s favorite pastime. On this day in 1970, the Milwaukee Brewers, Inc. acquired the Seattle Pilots franchise. The team was renamed, moved to Wisconsin, and just like that, the Milwaukee Brewers were born. Play ball!
