📝 Coming soon: more trees!

April 10, 2024

Goooooooooood morning, Madison!

Are you feeling lucky? Well, so were dozens of underage patrons of Lucky's 1313 last Friday night. Unfortunately, their luck ran out when Madison police raided the bar and found that 160 out of 190 people inside the bar were under 21. Whoops.

What's CITY Talking About?

🚫 Alder Denies Abuse Allegations

  • Content warning: This story contains descriptions of domestic violence.
  • Following allegations of physical and emotional abuse by at least two women, Madison Ald. Charles Myadze has “categorically” denied the accusations.
  • One of the women who raised accusations called on City Council to hold a “no confidence” vote for Myadze in hopes of taking the first steps toward removing him from office. But the task of removing an alder from office isn’t so simple, especially when the actions that would be the “cause” for removal occurred before the person was in office, as it is in this case.
  • Myadze joined City Council representing part of the north side in 2021 after defeating incumbent Rebecca Kemble. He was reelected in 2023. [Madison365]

🌳 New Tree Season

🎮 Meet The Guild

  • A new video game lounge is set to open on State Street this summer. The new spot, dubbed The Guild, will be located at 668 State St. and be equipped with dozens of gaming computers, modern consoles like PlayStation and Xbox, and retro consoles like Atari. Owners are also considering adding arcade games like Pacman to the mix. The lounge will have a casual vibe and serve alcoholic beverages and snacks.
  • Chatter prompt: Is it me or are gaming bars having a moment in Madison? Between the countless golf simulators, arcade bars, and coffee shops with board games, there’s no shortage of places for Madisonians to play. Where do you game in Madison? [Wisconsin State Journal]

What’s Worth Saving in Madison?

Madison’s building boom continues. Construction cranes dot the skyline. Huge new apartment buildings are in progress on many of Madison’s largest thoroughfares: East Washington Ave, West Johnson, Regent Street. But downtown, making way for the new means out with the old, and that means demolition of old buildings.

This leaves us asking: what’s worth saving and how do we decide?
