📝 Get farmers market ready
April 11, 2024
Good morning, Madison!
Now that the 2024 total solar eclipse has come and gone, you may be wondering what exactly to do with your solar eclipse glasses.
Before you shove them into a junk drawer never to see the light of day again, consider donating them. Astronomers Without Borders is collecting eclipse glasses to be repurposed and reused by underserved communities around the world for future solar eclipses. Warby Parker is one of the group’s collection partners and there happens to be a shop on State Street.

🥕 Prepare For Farmers’ Market Street Closures
- In case you missed it, the Dane County Farmers’ Market on the Capitol Square kicks off its 2024 season this Saturday. You can expect dozens of local vendors, countless shoppers, and a few street closures.
- Several blocks will be closed to motor vehicle traffic each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the market. This includes part of West Mifflin Street, part of State Street, and part of North Carroll Street. Metro transit will have bus route detours.
- Dig deeper: Get all the tips and tricks of the market in today’s episode of City Cast Madison! [DCFM, City of Madison, Metro, City Cast Madison 🎧]
😎 It’s Almost Terrace Time
- Get ready for pitchers, popcorn, and brats because the Memorial Union Terrace chairs will be back for the season next week. Starting April 17 (weather permitting) 2,000 of the classic sunburst tables and chairs will make their return to the terrace and to celebrate, the Union will host an Opening of the Terrace Party from 4 to 6 p.m. [Wisconsin Union]
📻 Changes For Wisconsin Public Radio
- Wisconsin Public Radio has announced that starting May 20, WPR’s two current networks “NPR News & Music” and “The Ideas Network” will be rebranded as “WPR News” and “WPR Music.”
- The move comes after years of analysis, audience research, and planning. In practice, it means The Ideas Network name will be retired and most of its staff and programming will be rolled into WPR News.
- The station also announced it will launch a new morning news and culture show dubbed “Wisconsin Today,” co-hosted by Kate Archer Kent and Rob Ferrett. [WPR]
