What's CITY Talking About?

🍻 Mifflin Is Coming
- The annual (unsanctioned) Mifflin Street Block Party is set for April 27. The block party has sparked backlash in recent years after some Mifflin Street residents complained of property damage and dangerous behavior at the event. In 2022, a balcony collapsed at the event, leaving three people injured.
- “None of us can understand what is special about intoxication, the assaults that happen, the injuries that happen, people climbing trees and touching power lines, a nurse getting kicked in the head, all to celebrate a day that is no longer about a Vietnam protest,” Madison Police Department Central District Captain Michael Hanson said at a neighborhood meeting.
- Nonetheless, Mifflin is likely to continue. The 2023 event drew an estimated crowd of 10,000 people. Whew. [Badger Herald, Channel 3000]
🎨 Meet MMoCA’s New Director
- Wisconsin native and UW-Madison alum Paul Baker Prindle has been named the new director of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. He succeeds Christina Brungardt, who stepped down in 2023 after three years in the role.
- Baker Prindle has years of experience working in museums on the West Coast and prior to that, he served as gallery director at Edgewood College in Madison. [Cap Times]
🚧 What’s Next For the Alliant Energy Center
- The Alliant Energy Center redevelopment committee is considering 10 plans to modernize the West side multi-use facility. Of course, the main concern for the project is funding. A high-priority proposal to update the exhibition hall alone would come with a $175 million price tag.
- Currently, the committee is considering an array of plans that include developing an indoor youth sports facility, building an additional parking structure, developing a central plaza, and more. [WKOW, Dane County]

Will Constitutional Amendments Cause More Chaos for Our Elections?
Madison City Attorney Michael Haas is no stranger to elections. He used to be the administrator for the Wisconsin Elections Commission, the state agency that administers Wisconsin’s election laws. And he’s sounding the alarm about two new Constitutional amendments that Wisconsin voters approved this April.
