What's CITY Talking About?

What once was The Atwood Scoop will soon be Sassy Scoop. (Hayley Sperling / City Cast Madison)

🍦 Atwood’s Ice Cream Scene

  • After four seasons, the Atwood Scoop has closed. The tiny, seasonal ice cream shop on Atwood Avenue had a contentious rivalry with the nearby Chocolate Shoppe ice cream store, making for some nasty neighborhood drama. The shop’s new owner, however, hopes to leave the past behind and start a new chapter with the “Sassy Scoop.”
  • The shop’s name is a nod to both the neighborhood and the ice cream it plans to sell, Sassy Cow. In addition to ice cream, the seasonal shop will also have shakes, vegan ice cream, and cold brew from Madison-based Let It Ride Cold Brewed Coffee. The new owner hopes to open up shop ASAP. Meet Ziggy, this feat of nature is a Chihuahua/Australian Shepherd mix, who was adopted by Madison Minutes reader Joe L. who says this cutie has a fierce bark much bigger than her size, but once she gets to know you she is all kisses and snuggles.

Drug Treatment Delayed, Madison Housing Swap, and Big Changes on State Street

The City Cast team is here to round up the news of the week. Bianca Martin, Hayley Sperling and Molly Stentz recap the mysterious hold-up of state money for drug treatment and prevention programs. Plus, we discuss the creative proposal to build new affordable housing on East Washington Ave. in exchange for student housing on campus.
