Happy Monday, Madison!
Need a new license plate? You’ve got options. The Wisconsin DMV recently unveiled two new designs for drivers who like to ride in style and support good causes. One benefits suicide prevention, and the other advocates for spaying and neutering of pets.
Now let’s buckle up and get into today’s news.

What's CITY Talking About?

🤝 Resolution Reached
- Pro-Palestinian protesters and UW-Madison administrators reached an agreement Friday, bringing an end to two weeks of protests on campus.
- Students for Justice in Palestine at UW-Madison (SJP) agreed to remove the encampment from library mall, abstain from disrupting any university activities, and follow all university policies in any future endeavors (including abiding by the university’s “no camping” rules).
- In exchange, UW will help connect SJP organizers with decision makers at the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA), which controls the university’s multibillion dollar endowment. Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin has agreed to attend the meeting between WFAA and SJP, if the group so chooses.
- Additionally, UW’s International Division will conduct a review of the university’s projects, internships, and abroad programs that “engage with places and people impacted by war” and assess the opportunities for expanding those endeavors.
- UW has also agreed to hire a staff member dedicated to supporting students impacted by war, violence, and displacement. Academically, the university will host “at least one scholar from a Palestinian University” for the next three academic years, with possible extension. [UW-Madison, Badger Herald]

- Part of East Doty Street will close today as crews prepare for the continuation of the Doty Street and Wilson Street reconstruction project. East Doty Street will be limited to one lane from Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. to King Street until Aug. 16.
- When the street reopens, it will be as a two-way street while the 100 block of West Wilson Street undergoes reconstruction. West Wilson will be closed to through traffic from Aug. 16 to Nov. 8.
- Any potential Metro detours will be listed online.
- You can see a map of the affected areas here. [City of Madison]
