📝 It’s festival season in Madison

May 17, 2024 · ✏️ Thanks to City Cast editor Bryan M. Vance!

Happy Friday, Madison! It’s summer in Madison, which means there’s pretty much a festival happening every weekend, if you know where to look. This weekend alone brings Syttende Mai to Stoughton, WORTstock to Warner Park, and Distill America to Breese Stevens Field.

Keeping up with the latest festivities could be a full-time job, thankfully Isthmus and Cap Times have both published festival guides for the season. On top of that, our events calendar is always stocked with the latest Madison happenings all year round.

If you want a sneak peek at what’s on the horizon, join our membership program and you’ll get access to our weekly members-only events newsletter.

What's CITY Talking About?

Westbound travel delays are expected, and motorists should use Stoughton Road to Highway 30 to East Washington Avenue as an alternate route to avoid the traffic congestion.

⛔ East Wash Lane Closure

  • Part of East Washington Avenue will be closed through the weekend for concrete paving.
  • Westbound travel lanes from Rowland Avenue to Wright Street have been reduced to one lane. Delays are expected, so plan accordingly. Thankfully, the street should be back to full strength by Monday morning. [City of Madison]

🍻 No Alcohol? No Problem.

  • A new spot has opened in Middleton selling exclusively non-alcoholic beverage products. Sober Social is located at 1814 Parmenter Street in Middleton and claims to be Wisconsin’s first nonalcoholic bottle shop.
  • The shop’s owner said she hopes the store can become a community hub and bridge the gap between sober living and society.

Friday Floof

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for our weekly dose of reader-supplied floof!

This week’s star is Gordie. This sweet boy is a mutt, and was rescued from a small apartment where people were attempting to breed toy mixes. Even though he’s had to have spinal surgery on a slipped disc, he’s a deliriously happy dog who knows EXACTLY when people are talking about how cute he is, according to his human Jesse R.

If you see him on a walk in the Atwood neighborhood, say hi! He’s dying to meet you.
