Goooooood morning, Madison! ‘Tis the season for spongy moths. The invasive species can have devastating effects on our local ecosystem. But the city is here to help. Madison residents can get free burlap to wrap around their trees to protect against spongy moth caterpillars.

Pick up is available (while supplies last) at the City of Madison Engineering Division operations facility at 1600 Emil St. and the Streets Division drop-off site located at 4602 Sycamore Ave.

Before rushing out for supplies, brush up on your knowledge of spongy months here.

🏳️‍🌈 Madison’s Pride

  • City of Madison and Dane County officials raised the Progress Pride Flag Monday over the City County Building to celebrate Pride Month. Both City Council and the County Board have introduced resolutions recognizing June 2024 as Pride Month.
  • Related: Madison is a very openly gay-friendly city. Multiple City Council members identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, as does our mayor, congressman, and even one of our senators. And yet, our city is lacking in gay bars, and specifically lesbian spaces. Enter, Dyke Dive. [City of Madison, City Cast Madison 🎧]

⚖️ False Electors Face Felony Charges

🏍️ An N/A Harley-Davidson Beer? Sure.

🏫 Evers Appoints 3 New Regents

  • Gov. Tony Evers recently named three new appointments to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. Evers’ picks include commercial lawyer Tim Nixon, former chair and CEO of American Family Mutual Insurance Company Jack Salzwedel, and UW-Oshkosh student Desmond Adongo.
  • All three appointments were made to fill vacancies created by previous regents’ term expirations. Initially, Bob Atwell, one of the outgoing regents who was appointed by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker in 2017, refused to resign when his term ended May 1. On Monday, Atwell notified university leaders of his resignation, clearing the way for his successor.
  • What is the Board of Regents? The board is made up of 18 members, 16 of whom are appointed by the Governor and subject to Senate confirmation. The board plays an important role in setting the standards by which all Universities of Wisconsin schools must follow. This includes admission standards, budget approvals, and beyond. [Gov. Meet Atwood’s New ‘Unplugged’ Space for Music Geeks

Madison is getting a new music venue, but unlike other spaces in the city — the priority isn’t the audience but instead the musicians. Muso is the brainchild of Hoot’n Annie String Band members Prentice Berge and Cindy Murphy, who wanted to create a space for musicians to rehearse and just enjoy playing in Madison. City Cast Madison podcast host Bianca Martin got a sneak peek at the space, and got into the rhythm and reason behind this new acoustic only spot.
