🗳️ Supreme Court has a change of heart
July 8, 2024
Happy Monday, Madison! I hope everyone had a chance to check something off their Madison summer bucket list this weekend. And if not, I hope you at least had a moment to relax. Today is an abbreviated newsletter, but don’t worry, tomorrow we’ll be back to your regularly scheduled programming.

What's CITY Talking About?

⚖️ Supreme Court Reverses Course
- The state Supreme Court announced that people in Wisconsin will be able to return their ballots into drop boxes. This ruling, issued Friday, comes two years after the previous court decided drop boxes weren’t allowed under state law, following baseless claims of election fraud.
- Supporters of the boxes say they allow more accessibility to voting for those with disabilities, working residents, and anyone worried about the slow pace of the U.S. Postal Service. [Cap Times]
🇺🇸 Biden Visits Madison
- President Joe Biden visited Madison Friday for a campaign event and pledged to stay in the presidential race. This was Biden’s fifth visit to Wisconsin this year and 12th as president.
- He talked to about 1,000 people at Sherman Middle School while several groups of protesters denounced his visit outside of the event. [WPR]

Is Madison a Walking, Biking, or Driving City?
Madison has always been a highly ranked city for bicyclists and pedestrians. In fact, Madison was recently named the 2nd safest city for pedestrians out of the largest 101 metropolitan areas across America. But this has taken years of planning and careful consideration to turn Madison’s streets into what we recognize today. City Cast Madison host Bianca Martin sat down with the city’s director of transportation Tom Lynch to get a look at what’s working and what needs improvement.
