What's CITY Talking About?

🍎 More Opportunities for Food Scrap Recycling
- The West Community Market will have a drop-off for food scraps starting July 20. There will be a booth where people can drop their food scraps off for free. This is the third farmers market location for the people of Madison to drop off their compost, along with the Eastside Farmer’s Market and South Madison’s Farmers Market.
- Accepted scarps include anything that you would normally put in a compost bin. This includes coffee grounds, egg shells, raw fruits and vegetables, and other similar items. Meats, bones, oils, and dairy products — including cheese! — aren’t allowed. You can see a full list of accepted and prohibited items here. [City of Madison]
📱 Is Wisconsin Becoming a Tech Hub?
- The answer is yes, and a lot of this is due to advancements happening in Madison. Last week, Wisconsin was officially selected as a U.S. Regional Tech Hub by the U.S. Economic Development Administration. This creates $49 million worth of federal funding, helping grow the state's research and development.
- Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Economic Development Center have requested the Joint Finance Committee to release $7.5 million to BioForward Inc., which leads the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub Consortium. This will help grow their personalized medicine and biohealth technology center. [WPR, 7 WSAW-TV]
⛳ Calling All Golf Fans
- Topgolf plans to build its first driving range and golf entertainment center in Wisconsin along the Beltline. It will be located between WPS Health Solutions and South Towne Mall in Monona. The $30 million project will replace five buildings on WPS’ campus.
- This Topgolf facility is projected to draw close to 250,000 visitors a year, including 1,000 per day on weekends. It would also create 300 jobs. The project is still pending review but is projected to open in 2026. [🔒WSJ]
