🌧 How to protect your home from flooding
July 17, 2024
What’s up, Madison! I hope you all are having a great start to your Wednesday. In case you missed it — Donald Trump recently announced J.D. Vance, a junior senator from Ohio, as his vice presidential pick. Why are we talking about this? Vance’s memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” was selected as UW-Madison’s Go Big Read back in 2017. Small world.
Both Trump and Vance are at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week. This Cap Times article does a great job of capturing what day one looked like through photos.

What's CITY Talking About?

🏥 Expansion of UW’s Hospitals
- In an effort to keep up with Madison’s growing demand for health care, UW Health has announced expansions to UW Hospital and the East Madison Hospital. UW Health already has several projects in the works, including the Eastpark Medical Center, which is set to open in October, a new clinic on the West Side, and a rehabilitation hospital in Fitchburg.
- These projects are all part of a $900 million investment and represent a 1 million square foot expansion. [🔒WSJ]
🚵 Good News for Mountain Bikers
- Saris, a Fitchburg-based bike accessories company, has opened its bike trails to the public after previously only being available for employees. Capital Off-Road Pathfinders (CORP) now counts Saris Trail as an official trailhead for mountain biking. Each trail in Saris’ network is labeled by its difficulty, similar to that of a ski hill.

- The crawl stops at nine different Chocolate Shoppe locations and you get a free mini cone at each stop.
