🏛️ What’s Next for the Wisconsin Veterans Museum

  • The State Building Commission unanimously approved the state’s plan to spend $9 million to buy the Wisconsin Veterans Museum downtown. The plan is to replace the current building with a new five-story building.
  • The remodel project is projected to cost $140 million, $40 million of which will come from private donations raised by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation.
  • The current building only has enough room to display 3% of its collection, but the new building would allow 20-25% to be displayed. This will also be located right by the future Wisconsin History Center. [🔒WSJ]

🎊 Westfest Makes Its Return

  • This Saturday will be Westfest at Elver Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This festival will offer music, food, dunk tanks, and more.
  • Local organizations, including the Madison Public Libraries and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will be tabling at the festival to raise awareness about their work.

Friday Floof

A cat sitting with a toy.
She's almost 11 years old and enjoys a quiet life full of toys, treats, and belly rubs. (Lisa C.)

Catzia Dax, or Dax for short, was adopted from the Dane County Humane Society a few months before the pandemic started and she rapidly became a great work-from-home co-worker. The Trekkies out there will catch the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine reference in her name. Live long and prosper!

What To Do

Friday, Aug. 9

📰 Extra! Extra! This past week, Madison College hosted the second annual "She Builds Wisconsin" camp, organized by the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin. The summer camp focused on teaching girls about construction, architecture, and engineering. Shoutout to women breaking barriers in the trades!
