⚖️ Man Faces Hate Crime Charges for 2023 UW Incident

  • A man who allegedly made racist comments towards a group of students at UW and threatened to hurt them is now facing hate crime charges.
  • Lukas Nowak, 20, is charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, one count of terroristic threats, and one count of disorderly conduct using a dangerous weapon.
  • In 2023, a group of sorority sisters say Nowak and another man disrupted their study area on campus. Nowak then made racist comments about some of the student’s race and ethnicity, threatened to hurt someone because of their identity, and spit on their door.

🚘 Vehicles Allowed on State Street for Move-In Days

  • The city announced Thursday it will pause vehicle closures on State Street through Sunday to make space for vehicles like moving trucks.
  • As part of the State Street Pedestrian Mall project, the 400-600 blocks are generally closed to all non-emergency vehicles at certain times during the day. But the City of Madison says these restrictions could cause “logistical headaches” during move-in days.
  • Vehicle restrictions on State Street will return after the moving season has ended and through October for the mall experiment. [Channel3000]
