Heyyyy, Madison! We want to make sure y’all are aware of some road closures going on this weekend in and near downtown due to the Ironman races. The half Ironman will be on Saturday and the full Ironman will be on Sunday, both start at 7 a.m. For more information on the road closures, check out the different course maps. We gave a roundup of the Ironman along with other September events in our September Guide! Give it a listen 🎧

What's CITY Talking About?

🤔 What Happened to Robinia Courtyard?
- Robinia Courtyard opened in 2015 — a restaurant group including Black Locust Cafe, Jardin, and Madison Tap. The whole LLC recently closed its doors due to various issues like bounced or missing checks, inaccurate payments, and unresponsive owners.
- Cap Times food editor Lindsay Christians dug into what happened that led to Robinia’s demise and what’s (potentially) next for the spot. City Cast Madison host Bianca Martin talked to Lindsay about her reporting. [Cap Times, City Cast Madison 🎧]

🚔 Madison Police Are Cracking Down
- Wisconsin is known for having a higher rate of excessive drinking in comparison to other states. There are hundreds of drunk driving cases logged this year by the Madison Police Department, making it likely 2024 will surpass last year's number of arrests of 595.
- However, in Madison, police are making more arrests this year for drugged driving. While marijuana is not legal in Wisconsin, a type of THC that still gets people high is legal and available for Wisconsinites.
- The potential for statewide policies to be implemented is up for discussion. This could mean sobriety checkpoints which would stop all vehicles in an area to see if drivers are impaired. [Cap Times]
🛣️ Could John Nolen Drive Lose Lanes?
- John Nolen Drive will have a different look for the next couple of months, and it could become permanent. A section of John Nolen will be closed starting Monday due to the resurfacing of Olin-Turville Court and E. Lakeside Street.
- The city wants to test the possibility of getting rid of these lanes on John Nolen permanently. This reconstruction is part of a bigger project to remodel the Monona lakefront which would begin in 2026. This is known as the Monona Lakeway project. [City of Madison, 🔒WSJ]
