Good morning, Madison! This is a particularly beautiful time of year in the Midwest. But even when it’s not leaf-peeping season, Midwest photographers can find lovely and fascinating things to capture. On the City Cast Madison podcast today, Madison photographer Andy Adams talks about PhotoMidwest’s 13th Biennial Exhibition at the Arts + Literature Laboratory. 📷

What's CITY Talking About?
🚒 Man in Custody for String of Madison Fires
- A person of interest is in custody in connection with three downtown fires that occurred Wednesday morning, Madison Fire Department reported.
- Firefighters put out a blaze at an apartment in the 500 block of West Washington Avenue and two dumpster fires—one near State Street and West Johnson Street and the other on Langdon Street.
- The apartment fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the home and displaced six UW-Madison students. A GoFundMe has been set up to assist them.
💵 Nonprofit for Homeless Residents Runs Out of Money
- Urban Triage, a nonprofit-run program providing rental assistance to homeless residents, is out of money and $100,000 over budget.
- In April, Dane County awarded Urban Triage a $317,000 contract to provide rental assistance, arrears, and security deposit support to people experiencing homelessness in the county. But the nonprofit’s founder and CEO, Brandi Grayson, discovered that all the money had been spent by the first week of September.
- Grayson said the company is committed to helping residents already approved for financial assistance, but will accept no new applicants.
🍸 Lola’s Hi/Lo Lounge Serves Up a Sidecar
- Lola’s Hi/Lo Lounge, the popular north side cocktail lounge and vinyl listening bar, announced that it’s opening an event space next door, called Lola’s Sidecar Lounge.
- The space formerly owned by Burkhalter Travel will be available for private rentals of up to 30 people and will be used as overflow space for regular patrons when not booked. Cheers!
