October 29, 2024 · —Rob Thomas
Good morning, Madison! Did you know that there are spooks and spirits in your neighborhood? At least they are if you live in the Dudgeon-Monroe neighborhood, where every Halloween two families work together to create a “Haunted Yard” that attracts hundreds.

On the City Cast Madison podcast today, scare queens Jinger Schroeder and Emily Balsley talk to Bianca Martin on how they got started, how the neighborhood has embraced it, and how they came up with this year’s Chappell Roan-inspired theme, “Red Blood Supernova.” Give it a listen – if you dare! 👻

What's CITY Talking About?
🎷 Big-Name Political Rallies Continue in Madison
- With Election Day only a week away, the number of heavyweight political rallies in Madison only seem to be getting bigger.
- On Wednesday, Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris will host a rally/concert on the UW-Madison campus that will feature Gracie Abrams, Mumford & Sons, Remi Wolf, and two members of The National.
- Not to be outdone, Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign is sending ex-Democrats Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard to campaign with U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson on Tuesday at the Alliant Energy Center. [WKOW, Channel 3000]
🧑⚖️ Who Leaked Wisconsin Supreme Court Document?
- Months after a draft Wisconsin Supreme Court opinion was leaked to the press, there has been no apparent progress in finding the leaker.
- The document, released in June, said the court should take a case arguing that abortion rights in Wisconsin should be protected under the state constitution. Justices decried the leak and reported the matter to the Capitol Police.
- But, so far, no results have been released, and there’s been no confirmation that an active investigation is even in process. [Cap Times]
🏡 Last Call For Food Scrap Drop-offs
- This is the last week to drop off food scraps for the city’s farmers’ market food scrap program. You can drop off approved food scraps at the Eastside and South Madison Farmers’ Markets on Tuesday and the Westside Community Market on Saturday.
- The program aimed to compost 22,000 pounds of food scraps this year, a mammoth undertaking (literally, the city estimates that equals the weight of two adult wooly mammoths). Participation far exceeded expectations, and the program is on track to compost 30,000 pounds of food scraps. The program will return in 2025.
