🎄 The best holiday markets in Madison
December 5, 2024 · — Ilana Nevins
Good morning, Madison! The holiday season is in full swing! We’ve rounded up some great holiday markets popping up you won’t want to miss, so plan your weekend accordingly. And stay warm!

What's CITY Talking About?

📚 The Reading Room is Now Open
- The beloved local bookstore, A Room of One’s Own, has opened an event space to host author talks and community events next to its storefront on Atwood Avenue.
- The Reading Room at 2713 Atwood Ave. debuted over summer when the bookstore rented the space and began holding events, eventually formally announcing the addition late last month. [The Cap Times]
🏫 Second Member Resigns from Sun Prairie School Board
- Lisa Goldsberry, a Sun Prairie Board of Education Member, resigned from her position, citing policies that were “created to silence” her.
- Goldsberry is the second board member to step down in recent months, she joins former member Alwyn Foster, who resigned recently in solidarity with Sun Prairie East principal Renee Coleman.
- Coleman was pushed out in November due to alleged misconduct. She claims the district holds a “double standard” when it comes to how Black employees are treated. [Madison365]
⛷️ Need New Skis?
- Wisconsin's Hoofer Ski and Snowboard Resale returns to Madison this week to raise funds for the student-led club and allow the community to buy ski and snowboarding gear at cheaper prices.
- This is the 60th year of the event, which is marketed as Wisconsin’s largest ski resale.
- The resale will take place on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1308 W. Dayton St, inside Varsity Hall. [Channel3000]

Best New Restaurants of 2024

Madison Magazine Food Editor Emma Waldinger joined City Cast Madison host Bianca Martin on the podcast this week to do a year in review of Madison's new restaurants, bars and cafes. In 2024, 39+ spots opened in the Madison area, and 16+ places debuted new locations, expanded or reopened. It was a particularly good year for variety and a banner year for Latin American cuisine.

Waldinger also put together a more in-depth look at this year in restaurant openings (and closings) at madisonmagazine.com if you're already building your 2025 dining-out shortlist.
