What's CITY Talking About?

⚖️ Myadze Censured, Removed From Committees

  • District 18 Ald. Charles Myadze was officially censured by his colleagues on the Madison City Council, marking the first time such a resolution against a sitting member has been passed. The vote was 13-2 with two abstentions.
  • Myadze has been removed from his committee assignments and has said he won’t run for reelection. The resolution cited allegations by three women – District 2 Ald. Julianna Bennett, a city employee, and a member of the public – that Myadze sexually harassed them.
  • Myadze has denied the allegations.
  • Dig deeper: Bennett talked about those allegations with Bianca Martin on the City Cast Madison podcast. [Madison365, 🎧 City Cast Madison]

👪 Madison College To Build $10 Million Child Care Center

  • With more than two in five Madison College students being parents, the college will build a $10 million child care facility for them at its Goodman South Campus.
  • Officials said the facility is especially needed given the lack of child care facilities in south Madison and the 30% drop in child care workers in the last decade.
  • The building, which will be located where Madison Fire Station 6 currently sits on West Badger Road, will feature two floors of classrooms for children under 5. [WKOW]

Madison's Best New Bars and Restaurants

Welcome to our list of the best new restaurants and bars opening in and around Madison! We’ll update this list each month. If we’ve missed a new spot you think we should feature, let us know!

Molten Monkey Pizza (Tenney-Lapham)

The new Detroit-style pizza restaurant opens Friday in the East Johnson Street spot formerly occupied by Salvatore’s Tomato Pies. Owner Otto Dilba, who co-founded Ale Asylum brewery, said he spent over a year perfecting authentic and yet innovative Detroit pies, such as the chicken tikka masala-inspired Tik Tik Boom, and the Piggly Figgly with ham and fig jam.

The Fiering (Stoughton)

This upscale restaurant is slated to open later this month on Stoughton’s Main Street, conveniently located near the Stoughton Opera House for pre-show dining. Expect a New American menu that includes fresh pasta and seafood and a robust vegan menu.

Meep Meepleton’s World of Fun (Near East Side)

The vintage toy store on Willy Street wants to have fun with its first foray into food, so owners Dave and Amanda Farrar are opening a hot dog stand in the empty lot behind the store. No word on an opening date, but the couple are planning some “bonkers stuff.”

Orchard (Verona)

The owners of The Cider Farm plan to close their west side taproom at the end of December to focus on a new venture, an upscale gastropub in Verona that features locally-sourced ingredients and, of course, cider tastings. Expect a spring opening.

Little Tibet Market & Cafe (North Side)

Combo dining/retail spaces seem to be all the rage in Madison lately, and the owners of Little Tibet on Johnson Street are getting into the game. The storefront on North Sherman Avenue, scheduled to open next spring, will feature Indian groceries and Tibetan crafts as well as hot foods like samosas and Tibetan dumplings.
