What's CITY Talking About?

🚓 Police Chief Takes Top Cop Job in Seattle
- Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes is expected to be sworn in later this month as the chief of police in Seattle. His hiring was announced in late December by Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, during the same week that Barnes was overseeing the investigation into the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School.
- Barnes came to MPD in 2021. An interim police chief will likely be appointed after Barnes leaves, and the city’s Police and Fire Commission will hire a permanent replacement. [KOMO, Cap Times]

⚖️ Is an Arrested Alder Planning to Run For Re-Election?
- Despite being charged with eight felony counts of domestic violence and censured by the Madison City Council, Ald. Charles Myadze was spotted collecting signatures for a re-election campaign in his north side district.

Friday Floof

Meet Tengen and Toppa! They may be taking some downtime in this photo, but their owner Chelsea promises that they play hard as well as sleep hard. Tengen loves to give kisses, and Toppa sniffs with his mouth open to get a good scent profile. They love watching birds outside and watching TV on the couch. And if there’s any insect in the house, they’ll be sure to let everyone know about it!

📰 Extra! Extra! WMTV meteorologist Brian Doogs got quite a shock on his Dec. 30 forecast when an image of the late Madison comedian Chris Farley started popping up at random on his weather map. “That is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen in my life!” Doogs exclaimed as Farley, in his role as motivational speaker Matt Foley, glitched on the screen. Better get that fixed, Brian, or you’ll be living in a van down by the river 🚐
