🍳 Short Stack Faces Questions About Business Practices

  • In the wake of Short Stack Eatery’s owners announcing that they will close in May, some former employees have spoken out about their experiences working at the restaurant, particularly how tips were handled.
  • One employee expressed concerns that tips were being taken from employees for tardiness and redistributed to other staffers. A UW-Madison labor law professor said that wouldn’t be allowed under the law.
  • Listen to the City Cast Madison squad talk about the unanswered questions surrounding Short Stack on the Friday news roundup. We also talked about Culver’s wildly successful fundraiser to support the Abundant Life Christian School community, and who’s in and who’s out of this spring’s unprecedented Madison City Council election. 🖌️ Some See Red Over Chipped Paint in BRT Lanes

  • Just four months after the city’s bus rapid transit system launched, the bright red paint used to mark bus-only lanes is already showing signs of chipping.
  • The paint was supposed to last for a decade before needing repairs, city officials said, but flecks can already be seen on the sidewalk and curb in the downtown and campus areas. Officials say they don’t know the reason why it’s chipping, but the paint job is still under warranty. [Isthmus]

💰 UW Foundation Rebuffs Calls To Divest Funds

  • UW Foundation’s outgoing CEO said it’s unlikely that the foundation will accede to campus pro-Palestinian protesters who wanted the foundation to disclose its investments and divest from “unethical practices.”
  • Mike Knetter said he had a robust discussion last year with protesters about their wishes, including that the foundation’s investments not support practices like arms manufacturers or private prisons. But Knetter said in an interview with the Cap Times that the foundation won’t make political statements by where it invests its funds. [Cap Times]

The UW Geology Museum just announced their field team has discovered what is believed to be the oldest dinosaur in the northern hemisphere – the Ahvaytum bahndooiveche! The name means “long ago dinosaur” in Shoshone, and the ankle bones discovered by the team in Wyoming are believed to be 230 million years old 🦕
