What's CITY Talking About?

👮 Sheriff Ends Program That Flags Immigrants In Custody
- Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said his department will no longer participate in a federal program that provides federal grant money for agencies that incarcerate undocumented immigrants.
- The State Criminal Alien Assistance Program provides historical data on immigrant incarceration that can be shared among federal agencies, including ICE. But Barrett said that in listening to Dane County residents’ concern about the program, and with President Donald J. Trump authorizing ICE to conduct mass deportations, his department will no longer participate: “It’s a different time.” [Ch. 3000]
🎒Madison High School Mascots Are Getting a Glow-up
- The mascots at Madison’s four high schools will soon be getting a new look. But don’t worry, they’ll still be Regents, Lancers, Spartans, and Purgolders.
- District officials say they want to modernize the schools’ logos to reflect the look of the newly renovated buildings. They sent out a survey to parents and students asking them to evaluate three new designs for each school, and pick their favorite. Anybody can take the survey and weigh in. [ 🔒WSJ, MMSD]
🎧 It’s Been a WEEK. We Talk About It On Friday News Roundup.
- It’s Friday, you guys! Not only have we almost made it to the weekend, but that means you can listen to the team on the City Cast Madison podcast talk about the news of the week on the Friday news roundup.

And Hayley Sperling details how the Madison Fire Department’s behavioral health emergency response team, CARES, has been so successful that it’s expanding to Sun Prairie.
- And we all talked about the stars — both celestial and country. Give it a listen! [🎧City Cast Madison, WMTV, Ch. 3000, MJS]

His personal speed record for swallowing an entire slice of pizza when someone left it on the coffee table is 0.75 seconds. His favorite human is Adam Sage, who has done a phenomenal job these past few months as a producer for the City Cast Madison podcast. Thanks Adam (and Archie!)
