🚨 GOP Bill Would Force Dane County Sheriff To Work With ICE

  • A Republican-sponsored bill in the state Legislature would require the Dane County Sheriff’s Office to work with ICE or lose out on $1.3 million in annual state aid.
  • The bill would require people detained for felonies to prove they are legal U.S. residents, and require sheriff’s offices to notify ICE of detainees who don’t have that proof. Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said he would likely veto the bill if it passes the Legislature.
  • Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett recently said his department would pull out of a voluntary federal program that would provide historical data on detainee’s immigration status to federal officials. [WPR, Ch. 3000]

⚖️ Myadze Wants Six of Eight Felony Counts Dismissed

  • Madison Ald. Charles Myadze’s attorney filed a motion in court Monday asking for six of the eight felony counts against him for domestic violence to be dismissed.
  • The motion claims that the six counts lack probable cause and contain “superfluous” and “contradictory” allegations. The charges are based on allegations from former deputy mayor Gloria Reyes of domestic abuse, burglary and false imprisonment from when Reyes and Myadze were in a relationship.
  • 🎧 Dig deeper: Madison Ald. Juliana Bennett talked about her own allegations against Myadze, which led to a city investigation, on the City Cast Madison podcast. [Madison365, 🎧City Cast Madison]
