🗳️ There’s an election Tuesday. Are you ready?
February 14, 2025 · —Rob Thomas
Good morning, Madison! And Happy Valentine’s Day! A reminder that another holiday, Presidents’ Day, is on Monday, and both the Madison Minutes newsletter and the City Cast Madison podcast will be off that day. We’ll be back on Tuesday 😍

What's CITY Talking About?

🗳️ Tuesday Is Election Day! Again!
- It may seem like you just went to the polls, but Feb. 18 is the primary day for the April 1 spring election in Wisconsin. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- All Wisconsin voters can vote in the primary for the Wisconsin Superintendent of Schools, which will narrow the three candidates on the ballot – incumbent Jill Underly and challengers Brittany Kinser and Jeff Wright – down to two.
- In addition, all 20 Madison City Council seats will be up on April 1, and Districts 9, 10, and 12 will have primaries on Tuesday’s ballot.
- 🎧 Dig deeper: The City Cast Madison team talks about the upcoming election on the Friday news roundup. We also talk about the drama surrounding the county Department of Human Services director job, food business news at EatStreet and the Ohio Tavern, and the just-released Summerfest lineup. Give it a listen! [City of Madison, PBS Wisconsin, Daily Cardinal, 🎧 City Cast Madison]

❄️ Snow Lovers Will Love This Valentine’s Day
- Wednesday was the first significant snowfall for Madison this winter, and there’s more on the way. The National Weather Service forecasts another 1 to 2 inches falling in Madison starting around mid-afternoon on Friday.
- An additional 1 to 3 inches is expected Friday night, and another 1 to 2 on Saturday. That will lead into some bitterly cold temperatures next week. [WKOW]
💸 School District Error May Cause Higher Taxes For Employees
- Madison Metropolitan School District employees may face sticker shock when they see their tax bills. The district said that, due to a payroll error, more money may have been exempted from taxation than it should have, which employees will need to pay on their tax returns.
- Educators said the mistake has caused “immense stress and hardship,” and asked the district for help with the higher-than-expected tax bills, including payment plans or financial assistance. [Cap Times]

Friday Floof

Meet Gilda! She was a rescue from a puppy mill who was 7 or 8 when her humans brought her home a couple of years ago, and she loves finally being in a house instead of a cage. She loves walks and kayaking. Her person says she is “the sweetest girl ever and looks right into your soul.” I see just what he means.
