What's CITY Talking About?

🚌 Business Owners Assess Damage From Bus Crash
- Two Madison businesses are picking up the pieces after a Metro Transit bus crashed into the side of the building they shared Tuesday night.
- Asian House restaurant, which was closed Tuesday, suffered significant damage to its kitchen, while QPS Employment Group next door had two of its offices destroyed by the bus. Police say a rider attacked the bus driver, forcing him to lose control. Both businesses are closed for reconstruction.
- 🎧 Dig deeper: On the City Cast Madison podcast today, listen to host Bianca Martin, executive producer Hayley Sperling, and I talk about the accident as part of the Friday news roundup. We also chat about record passenger numbers at the Dane County Regional Airport, and record spending in the April 1 Wisconsin Supreme Court race. [WMTV Ch. 15, 🎧 City Cast Madison]

💰 Salvation Army Community Center To Close
- Citing budget shortfalls, the Salvation Army of Dane County is closing its community center and laying off eight of its 58 employees.
- The center, which serves the Darbo Worthington neighborhood, will continue services through March 28. Officials said that the Salvation Army had benefited from public spending and grants during the COVID-19 pandemic, but most of that money has run out and cannot be renewed. [Madison365]
🏟️ Should the Coliseum Be Privately Managed?
- Dane County officials are looking at private partners to potentially take over operations at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in exchange for helping to fund a $150 million renovation project.
- This arrangement, which could range from exclusive booking rights to full management, would only apply to the Coliseum, and not to Alliant Energy Center’s other three venues, such as Exhibition Hall. Ticket sales have slid for the 10,000-seat arena, and a recent consultant study said it was “obsolete” in its current condition for modern concerts and sporting events. [Isthmus]

Friday Floof

Meet Calvin! He’s a friendly little troublemaker who is super cuddly and loves meeting people. He loves to explore new places and objects, especially new places and objects that are supposed to be off limits. (Which explains why the bathroom door now has a baby lock on it.) Calvin is also very food motivated and meows for hours before mealtime. After a long day of zoomies and games of hide-and-seek, he likes nothing better than curling up with Mom and Dad.

Now, the company has decided to close all its stores, which means that the location on Odana Road is also closing 🧵
