🏆 Badger women's hockey take NCAA title
March 24, 2025 · —Rob Thomas
Good morning, Madison! It was the best of times and the worst of times for Badger fans over the weekend. Bad news first — March Madness dreams were cut short for the Badgers men’s basketball team after they lost to BYU in an NCAA tournament second-round game Saturday.
But fans had reason to cheer on Sunday when the Wisconsin women's hockey team beat Ohio State and captured its eighth NCAA title. The university is inviting fans to celebrate with the team tonight at LaBahn Arena. On, Wisconsin! 🏅

What's CITY Talking About?

☕ Café Domestique Coming to West Side
- The coffee shop Café Domestique will open its third location just off Regent Street in April. The shop will move into a spot on Allen Street formerly occupied by The Heights restaurant.
- Café Domestique will collaborate in the space with GlouGlou, the pop-up wine shop next door. The space will be a coffee shop during the day and a wine bar at night. [Cap Times]
🗳️ Dane County Early Voting Surge Led by Students
- The City of Madison Clerk's Office said it issued absentee ballots to 33,579 voters for the April 1 election. As of late afternoon Friday, 13,535 have been returned to be counted, and more than 6,500 voters cast their ballots via in-person absentee voting. Nearly 25% of the 2,453 votes cast last Tuesday, the first day of voting, came from UW-Madison polling places, according to the clerk’s office.
- If you haven’t cast your ballot yet, get briefed on the candidates and the issues with our City Council candidate Q&As and our City Cast Madison podcast conversation with Cap Times state politics reporter Andrew Bahl. [Daily Cardinal, City of Madison, Madison Minutes, 🎧 City Cast Madison]
💸 Is Elon Musk Trying To Buy Wisconsin Votes?
- Two groups backed by billionaire Elon Musk have reportedly spent over $20 million to support conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel. Now Musk is offering $100 to any Wisconsin voter who signs a petition opposing “activist judges.”
- Musk won’t know whether a petition signer voted, or who they voted for, but he will have their contact information. Musk employed a similar tactic in the 2024 presidential race, announcing a $1 million giveaway to Pennsylvania voters to sign a petition in support of gun rights and free speech.
- 🎧 Dig deeper: Schimel’s opponent, progressive Dane County Judge Susan Crawford, appears on the City Cast Madison podcast today to talk about all the money pouring into the race (on both sides), and why she thinks she’s the best candidate for the seat. [Axios, 🎧 City Cast Madison]
