⚖️ Crawford, Underly Prevail in Statewide Races

🗳️ Here’s What Happened in Dane County and Madison Races

  • All 20 Madison City Council seats were up for election on Tuesday’s ballot. In the 14 contested races, most incumbents held onto their seats, with two exceptions. In a close race in District 9 on the far west side, Nikki Conklin lost her seat to Joann Pritchett, who got 51% of the vote. On the north side in District 12, challenger Julia Matthews defeated incumbent Amani Latimer Burris in another narrow win with 53% of the vote.
  • In the sole contested race for the Madison School Board, Bret Wagner, who focused his campaign on improving reading scores in the district, was defeated by Martha Siravo, who made special education needs her signature issue.
  • Dane County Executive Melissa Agard, who was elected last November to serve out the remainder of retiring Executive Joe Parisi, won a four-year term against Stephen Ratzlaff of DeForest. [Cap Times]

🇺🇸 Turnout in Dane County Was Sky High

  • Dane County election officials said that 69.6% of voters turned out for the election. Of 412,861 eligible voters, 287,433 voted either absentee or on Election Day.
  • Clerks across the state reported record turnout for the race, which featured the most expensive state Supreme Court race ever. In Dane County, the total voter turnout topped the spring 2023 election that put Justice Janet Protasiewicz on the court by 5%.
  • Milwaukee also saw record turnout, with seven polling sites temporarily running out of ballots on Election Day. [Dane County, WFRV Green Bay]

Do you know where this wall of vinyl is located? A few clues:

  • It’s in a bar located downtown
  • It’s in a location with a colorful history, once home to the Casbah hookah bar and the topless Mustang Inn
  • The name of the bar likely makes you think of a famous Beatles song!
