🔋 And That’s Why You Don’t Recycle Batteries

  • Madison Fire Department officials had to extinguish a blazing fire of recyclables on the west side Tuesday. While the cause of the fire was undetermined, an old computer was found among the debris, suggesting that the computer’s battery may have sparked and caught fire.
  • The fire started when a Madison Streets worker noticed smoke billowing from the top of their truck. They dumped the material on the street, which became fully consumed by flames.
  • City officials said the fire is a good reminder not to put batteries or electronics in recycling bins, because even the button battery from a musical greeting card can spark and start a fire. If you want more tips on what you can and can’t recycle, we’ve got you. [City of Madison, 🎧 City Cast Madison]

💰 Supporters Say Urban Triage is Being Targeted

  • Officials at Urban Triage, a Dane County nonprofit providing education and housing support for people in need, say that detractors are spreading misinformation about the group’s use of millions of dollars in county grants.
  • Urban Triage Board President Dana Pellebon, who ran unsuccessfully last fall for Dane County Executive, said the group and its CEO, Brandi Grayson, is the target of a “harassment and intimidation campaign.” Dane County Supervisor Jeff Weigand has called for an audit of Urban Triage.
