🏥 Over 1,000 Madison nurses will go on strike

⚖️ Dane County Judge Chris Taylor To Run For Supreme Court

• Liberal state appeals court Judge Chris Taylor, a former Madison legislator, announced she will challenge conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley in the April 7, 2026 election.
• Taylor served nine years in the state Assembly representing parts of Madison before being appointed to the court by Gov. Tony Evers. In her announcement, she immediately attacked Bradley, who is seeking a second 10-year term, for being “more interested in pushing her own right-wing political agenda than protecting Wisconsinites’ rights and freedoms.”
• The court currently has a 5-4 progressive tilt, so this race won’t tip the balance of power on the court like the last two elections. But it gives liberals a chance to strengthen their majority. [WPR]

🚨 Questions Remain Over Deaths of UW-Platteville Students

• Two UW-Platteville students died Monday in what university officials called a “targeted and isolated incident” in Wilgus Hall student residence.
• Several sources on campus said a shooting had apparently occurred. Some students said university officials did not communicate for several hours about the nature of the incident, leading to frustration and fear among the campus population.
• The incident happened just two days after the university’s commencement ceremonies, and UW-Platteville has cancelled final exams and is offering counseling. [ 🔒Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel]

🧑‍⚕️ Unity Point Health-Meriter Nurses Will Strike

• After contract negotiations Monday failed to result in a new deal, almost 1,000 nurses at Unity Point Health-Meriter will go on strike next week.
• Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Wisconsin said the strike will start May 27 and is expected to last until June 1. Union representatives said they are seeking compensation to attract and retain nurses, staffing solutions, improved security, and resolutions to multiple unfair labor practice charges.
