👷 Crews Break Ground on Imagination Center, 911 Call Center

• Shovels have been busy in Madison lately, as the city broke ground on its first new library in 25 years. The Imagination Center at Reindahl Park will take advantage of being the first Madison library located in a park, featuring an indoor-outdoor facility with a community space. It’s scheduled to open its doors early next year.
• Meanwhile, Dane County leaders celebrated the groundbreaking on Monday of a new 911 operations center on Madison’s east side.

⚖️ Man Convicted in Brittany Zimmerman Murder Dies

• David Kahl, who was convicted of the 2008 murder of UW-Madison student Brittany Zimmerman, has died in Dodge Correctional Institution, court records show.
• Zimmerman was found dead in her apartment on Doty Street, and Kahl was arrested 12 years later for the crime. He pleaded guilty in 2022 to first-degree intentional homicide and was sentenced to life in prison. [News 3]

🎸 Winger Steps In for Ace Frehley at Brat Fest

• KISS frontman Ace Frehley cancelled his headlining appearance at Brat Fest Friday night due to illness. Performing in his place will be the 1980s glam metal band Winger, known for hits like “Seventeen.”

🏃 Streets Closed for Run Madtown Races This Weekend

• Several streets will close Saturday and Sunday as runners descend on downtown Madison for the Run Madtown races. The Twilight 5K run will close streets through the UW-Madison campus from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday night.
• On Sunday morning, the 10k and half marathon races will start and end in the 700 block of State Street, with the routes looping through the Capitol Square, UW Arboretum, and on campus. Those races are expected to close streets from 7 to 11 a.m. [City of Madison]
