🏊 Goodman Pool Leaves Unaccompanied Minors High and Dry

  • Children younger than 16 now need an adult chaperone to attend Goodman Pool, according to new city rules passed in the aftermath of a recent fracas.
  • Previously, only kids 10 and under needed an adult guardian or parent. But after a large fight involving children at the South Side public pool on June 27 in which two girls faced disorderly conduct referrals, Madison Parks officials voted to raise the age.
  • While officials said the rule change was necessary to maintain public safety, some residents expressed irritation at the decision, saying kids should be free to swim in the summertime. [🔒 WSJ]

🛍️ Madison Public Market Further Delayed Until 2026

  • The long-awaited opening of the Madison Public Market, which had already been delayed from this summer until November, has been pushed back again until early next year.
  • In a post on Facebook, officials said that the market has been experiencing some construction delays and lease finalizations related to ensuring public health standards for the building’s food vendors.
  • The current plan is to begin tenant construction this fall and open the market early next year. The project on North First Street will include over 30 permanent vendor sites as well as temporary vendor space, public artwork, as well as space for craft fairs, food festivals, and other public events.
