What's CITY Talking About?

👷 Triangle Redevelopment Project Takes Shape
- City and state officials broke out the hard hats and shovels Wednesday to celebrate the start of the Triangle redevelopment project. The project for the Triangle neighborhood, bordered by Regent and Park streets and West Washington Avenue, will bring affordable homes for people of different income levels.
- The first building in the project will feature 150 apartments and Community Development Authority offices.
- 🎧 Dig deeper: On the Friday news roundup, the City Cast Madison team talk about how the Triangle could transform Madison. We also revisit the recent storms, and detail some big restaurant openings and closings. Also, were we too Grinchy about Hippie Christmas? Some of you think so! 🏘️ Dairy Drive Tiny Home Encampment Will Likely Close
- The encampment of tiny homes for homeless individuals on Dairy Drive will probably shut down in September, after Madison’s Board of Public Works recommended its dissolution.
- The camp opened in 2021 using federal COVID-19 funds, and was expected to last two years. But while Madison Community Development Director Jim O’Keefe said the money has gone further than expected, including for on-site mental and social support, the funds are now depleted.
- O’Keefe said the money is better spent on affordable housing and the new men’s shelter on Bartillon Drive. The city council will consider the measure at its Sept. 2 meeting. [News 3]
🚧 Doty Street Closure Monday & Rain Delays Nakoma Road Project
- The section of East Doty Street between Pinckney Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be down to one travel lane on Aug. 18 for asphalt repair. Work is expected to be finished by 3:30 p.m.
- Meanwhile, the planned closure of Nakoma Road for repairs is being delayed a week due to recent weather. The road will be closed for one week starting on Aug. 27 between Tumalo Trail to Manitou Way. [City of Madison]
