🚏Madison Gets $17 Million Federal Grant for Metro Upgrades

  • The city announced new funds will be used to purchase "fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles" as part of a $2 Billion nation-wide investment by the federal government into bus infrastructure.
  • Hopefully that means less maintenance and a longer life for Madison's aging bus fleet. [City of Madison]

🏘️ Proposed Homes in Shorewood Hills Anger Neighbors

  • Shorewood Hills villagers are up-in-arms about two new proposed single-family homes. More than 10 filed complaints against the property developer citing "off-street parking requirements" and lot line setbacks.
  • Shorewood Hills might already face budgeting strain as two-thirds of the village revenue comes from property taxes. Less taxable property and 30% inflation don't help the situation. [Isthmus]

🩺 Redefined Abortion Bill Passes Senate

  • At the Legislature's final meeting of 2025, the Senate approved a bill carving out exemptions to the state’s current definition of abortion. Redefining certain medical procedures like removing a dead fetus or embryo or an ectopic pregnancy to no longer be considered “abortions.” It specifies an abortion as "intentional destruction of the life" of an "unborn child" – itself defined as "a human being from the time of fertilization until birth." Democratic Sen. Kelda Roys of Madison called the definitions "Orwellian."
  • This comes as the FDA reviews abortion pill safety and heightened tensions at Health and Human Services. [Cap Times, Wisconsin Examiner]

Dear people of Youville, there’s a sweet cat in search of a heart to fill!

Dr. Seuss the cat was found running around loose in Delafield. When she arrived at DCHS in early November, she was dehydrated, covered in fleas, congested, and had a broken tooth. Despite all of that, she was friendly.

DCHS’s team provided her with medication, shelter, and nourishment – including removing the broken tooth. Now, she’s ready for the next chapter: finding a new place to call home.

Dr. Seuss can be a little timid at first, but speak to her gently and she’ll start making biscuits. She likes receiving pets and will roll around with happiness.

Dr. Seuss is looking for a family who will provide her with a safe space filled with treats, toys, and lots of love. If you like stories, snuggles, and cheer, then you’ll have good company with having Dr Seuss near.
