What's CITY Talking About

🏭 Foxconn Claims $569M Expansion Could Create 1,300 jobs
- The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. announced the expansion last week for Foxconn’s Mount Pleasant location which now makes "artificial intelligence servers."
- So far, the company has created only 1,200 of the promised 13,000 jobs and this newest expansion could potentially earn Foxconn $96 million in state tax credits through 2029.
- Though the company originally promised a $10 billion investment and a 20 million square foot campus in 2018, neither has fully materialized. [WPR, The Verge]
🏘️ New Low-Cost Apartments Proposed for Willy Street
- Common Wealth Development, a Madison nonprofit, is planning on building 25 to 28 new units after demolishing the current buildings at 1001 and 1007 Willy St. that they already own.
- The new development would be three stories tall and made to look like two separate structures to better fit the aesthetics of the neighborhood. All the units will be income-restricted, according to the nonprofit's executive director, Justice Castañeda. [Wisconsin State Journal 🔒]
🥛 Was Your Milk Contaminated?
- If you bought gallon-sized fat-free milk from Prairie Farms at Woodman's, maybe. "Cleaning agents" got into some of the company's dairy products, 230 gallons of which had already been sold, including at locations in Madison. Woodman's representatives said the rest had been removed from the shelves but if the code on the container says "DEC08," you can return it for a refund or throw it away. [FDA]
🏕️ Traditional Ciiporoke Structure Connects Kids With History
- Students outside Wingra School got a chance to more deeply connect with area history by building a ciiporoke with Ho-Chunk artist and horticulturist Lightning New Rider. The structure, made of saplings and twine, was built entirely by the students who even harvested the trees two years ago for the project.
- This year, they focused on covering the ciiporoke with canvas to better winterize the traditional structure, which was originally used for sleeping and storing goods, and is now used by kids for playing and learning. [WPR]
