🏒 Olympic Badgers back home in Madison
February 25, 2026 · —Rob Thomas
Good morning, Madison! The good news is that the local risk of exposure to the measles case found on the UW-Madison campus has expired. The bad news is that measles is still surging nationwide. On today’s City Cast Madison podcast, host Bianca Martin talks with public radio host-turned-podcaster Dr. Zorba Paster about how to protect yourself against measles and against misinformation about vaccines.

What's CITY Talking About

🤖 UW Students Want To Build a Robot That Folds Laundry
- Perhaps proving that college students will do anything to avoid doing their own laundry, UW-Madison’s new Humanoid Robotics club plans to build a humanoid robot from scratch that will deliver food and fold clean clothes.
- As opposed to the boxy food-delivery robots seen on campus, a humanoid robot resembles a human form, with arms and legs, and is capable of completing mechanical tasks similar to how a human would. Members of the club, nicknamed “WiscoHumanoids,” wrote on its website that they are building an autonomous two-armed robot that will do chores, with a goal to complete it by September. The robot will be on wheels, but club members hope to make more advanced humanoid robots with working legs in the near future. They are also looking for corporate sponsors. [Daily Cardinal]
🏗️ City Plans To Buy 17 Properties to Finish Royster Corners
- Over a decade after a 33-acre neighborhood was proposed on Madison’s east side, the city of Madison plans to purchase 17 vacant properties to complete the development.
- Royster Corners, built on the site of the former Royster-Clark fertilizer plant on Cottage Grove Road, was proposed in 2013 as a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and a new public library. But some parts of the plan still haven’t come to fruition, and the city is proposing to spend $5.2 million to purchase the 17 properties and spend another $1 million to prepare the site for redevelopment.
- The city hasn’t decided what to do with each property, but plans will likely include multiple kinds of housing, city officials said. The plan went before the Madison City Council Tuesday night. [ 🔒Wisconsin State Journal]
🏫 Parent Accuses School Staff of Feeding Her Son Dog Food
- The mother of a 15-year-old student at East High School is charging that staff fed her son dog food instead of a school lunch.
- Debra Hawkes said that staff confirmed her son was fed wet dog food and sent her a photo of the partially consumed can. Hawkes says her son is autistic and non-verbal. Madison Metropolitan School District officials said they are investigating the accusations but provided no further information due to privacy concerns. [Fox 47]

The Best Unexpected Places to See Movies in Madison

Barrymore Theatre
In addition to showing live music and comedy, the east side gem has gone back to its roots as a movie theater by booking more and more one-night-only movie screenings, as well as touring short film festivals such as the “Trail Running Film Festival” (March 17) and the 2026 Fly Fishing Film Tour (March 19).
UW Cinematheque
This free film series in Vilas Hall on the UW-Madison campus curates an eclectic mix of new indie movies, restored classics, and retro crowd-pleasers. This weekend, filmmaker Owen Kline will present his own film, “Funny Pages,” as well as eight of his favorite classic films.
Union South Marquee Theatre
Students on the UW Wisconsin Union Directorate Film Committee program this lovely theater on Union South’s second floor with classics like “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “When Harry Met Sally,” and with newer films like the “Social Cinema” documentary series. And it’s all free.
Madison Public Library
Several library branches show free movies on the regular, such as Hawthorne Library’s Anime Club and Goodman South’s Friday Family Films series. Also worth checking out is the Cinesthesia monthly series at the Central Branch — Spike Lee’s “Inside Man” is playing there March 17.
Madison Museum of Contemporary Art
MMoCA will sometimes show films in its lecture hall, often tied to exhibits on display. The museum really comes alive every August with Rooftop Cinema, where films are shown at night in the museum’s rooftop garden.

Where Is It?

⬆️ Last Week’s Photo
This was a TOUGH one! People guessed a lot of different coffee shops around Madison. But these flowers are blooming at the Cafe Domestique/Glou Glou Wine Bar on North Allen Street!
🎉 Congratulations to Emily B. and Steph K. for being the only two readers to guess correctly!
⬇️ This Week’s Photo

Where is this picture located? A few clues:
- It’s on Park Street
- It’s at a place that does serve the items depicted in the stained glass
- You might need to hire a lawyer named Perry to help crack the case!

Late Monday night, cameras caught the four UW-Madison Badgers who played on the gold-medal winning U.S. Olympics women’s hockey team — Laila Edwards, Caroline Harvey, Kirsten Simms, and Ava McNaughton — returning home at Dane County Regional Airport to the cheers of fellow travelers.
The team politely declined to visit the White House, saying they have other commitments, such as getting ready for this Friday’s first-round playoff series against Bemidji State. They may be going to Vegas with Flavor Flav, though 🏒
