What's CITY Talking About

🐑 Fibersheds Aren’t Sheepish About Sustainable Farming
- With the farm-to-table movement growing in popularity in Wisconsin restaurants, a new method of sustainable farming could transform fashion and textile arts. “Fibersheds” are locally-sourced sheep and flax farmers, like Oak Springs Farm near Argyle in the Driftless region, that develop close relationships between fiber farmers and designers who use their materials. Like community-supported agriculture, the goal is to prioritize the health of local ecosystems and support local producers and manufacturers.
- 🎧 Ewe oughta know! Feeling connected to the fibers we wear is a big part of the mission of the Midwest Linen Revival. On the City Cast Madison podcast today, host Bianca Martin talks to founder Leslie Schroeder about her efforts to make the fashion industry more sustainable. 🤔 New Park Street Building Will Keep Madison ‘Weird’
- On paper, the proposed development at the corner of South Park and West Lakeside Streets seems like many others around Madison – a four-story building with commercial space on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floor.
- But the project, approved last month by the Urban Design Committee, has drawn some pushback from neighbors for looking, well, “weird.” The design features metallic barrelled roofs facing Lakeside Street and triangular patios facing Parking Street.
- “I use ‘weird’ as a compliment,” District 6 Ald. Davy Mayer said of the design. But some residents said it didn’t fit in with the neighborhood, as well as could impact traffic safety and stormwater drainage. [Cap Times]
🎻 Rapper Rob Dz Will Join WCO at Concerts on the Square
- This summer’s Concerts on the Square series will feature the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra playing the works of Dvorak, George Gershwin, and...Elton John and Rob Dz?
- The free popular concert series that runs Wednesday nights on the Capitol Square will start on June 24 with a program featuring piano rocks like John and Billy Joel. On July 1, a “Unity in Sound” concert will combine patriotic tunes with new music by Madison rapper and educator Rob Dz, who has recovered from a heart attack he had on stage last December.
- This summer, Concerts on the Square will offer additional reserved seating options for patrons. [Cap Times, 🎧 City Cast Madison]

Take Me Home Tuesday

Meet Nocturne! This friendly six-year-old cat hangs out in Dane County Humane Society offices, and loves to sit by the office door so he can meow a welcome to everybody who comes inside. If you accept his invitation, he may be silly and roll around just to ask for more attention.
This handsome guy enjoys eating tasty treats, lounging in windows to watch the world outside, and playing with toys. Bring out a fishing pole-type toy and he might show off his impressive acrobatic leaps. Nocturne is looking for a home without small children where he can run, explore, and just lay about in windows. He’d love a family who adores his cute antics and will shower him with attention.
