  • The first residents moved in last week to The View at Huxley Yards, a 303-unit apartment building with one- to four-bedroom units. On April 1, residents will begin moving into Victoria at Huxley Yards, a six-story, 250-unit senior living complex nearby.

🧪 Federal Fetal Tissue Ban Leaves UW Scientists in Limbo

  • The National Institutes of Health announced Jan. 22 that it would immediately stop funding research that uses human fetal tissue obtained from elective abortions. The decision has stopped some promising research projects at UW-Madison in its tracks, with scientists unsure how to move forward.
  • Fetal tissue advocates say the research has advanced work on vaccines and understanding human development and diseases. At UW-Madison, Dr. Anita Bhattacharyya was using fetal tissue to study how brain development is altered in neurodevelopmental disorders, with a focus on Down syndrome.
  • 🎧 Dig deeper: The fetal tissue ban is just the latest salvo by the Trump administration against research at universities. With $27 million in federal research dollars already cut last year and more to come, UW scientists came on the City Cast Madison podcast to argue that the results are disastrous not just for universities, but for the individuals and businesses that benefit from such research.
