🏗️ North Shore Drive To Close For John Nolen Construction

  • As the John Nolen Drive reconstruction project moves into a new phase, South Broom Street will reopen June 2, and then North Shore Drive will close starting June 3.
  • The road is expected to be closed until mid-July while crews work on the North Shore Drive-John Nolen Drive intersection. The path on North Shore Drive and the Capital City Trail will remain open during that time.
  • In addition, the John Nolen Drive Causeway will completely close from 11 p.m. June 2 through 5 a.m. June 3 for a concrete bridge pour. [City of Madison]

🪩 Neighbors Aren’t Raving About the Noise at State Street Club

  • Cielo, a nightclub at 118 State Street known for “coffee raves” and other dance events, might be forced to shut down its dance floor less than a year after opening due to noise complaints.
  • The city has received multiple complaints from tenants at 114 State Street next door, including Michelangelo’s Coffee House. The building’s owner has complained that the noise might make it difficult to rent apartments at the building.
  • The city has threatened to pull Cielo’s entertainment license unless the owners make changes. Without that license, Cielo could still operate as a tavern to serve alcohol, but would be severely limited in how loud it could play music or hire DJs to perform. [ 🔒WSJ, Cielo]

🚒 Fire Crews Called to Madison-Kipp Dozens of Times

  • As investigators work to determine the cause of a fire last week at Madison-Kipp Corporation on Fair Oaks Avenue, records show multiple emergency calls to both of the aluminum company’s east side facilities over the years.
  • WMTV reported that the Madison Fire Department has responded to the Fair Oaks location 30 times in the last decade, including 12 fire-related incidents. They were called 46 times to Madison-Kipp’s Atwood Avenue location since 2016, including four fire-related calls.
  • No one was injured in the May 26 fire, which shut down several roads and could be seen for miles. [WMTV]

📰 Extra! Extra! Did you see the creepy horror movie “Backrooms” over the weekend? Did you know about the Wisconsin connection? A hobby shop in Oshkosh shared a photo of an eerily empty commercial space in 2003, which became a meme and inspired a YouTube series and now the movie.

Now Oshkosh is hoping to become a tourism destination for horror fans looking to get lost in a liminal space the color of old mustard 😦
