What's CITY Talking About

🗳️ Kirk Bangstad is Officially Off the Ballot
- The Wisconsin Elections Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to deny Minoqua Brewing Company owner Kirk Bangstad a spot on the ballot for the Democratic nomination for governor.
- The commission said Bangstad submitted 1,504 valid signatures, nearly 500 short of the 2,000 needed to be on the ballot, and that his campaign did not submit enough correcting affidavits to cure the errors.
- The commission denied ballot access to 67 other candidates as well. The primary election is August 11. [WPR, MyVote Wisconsin]

💸 Mayor Asks Departments For 2% Budget Cuts
- Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has told all city agency heads to make 2% cuts in their proposed budgets for 2027.
- Rhodes-Conway said that the city is facing financial challenges ranging from rising fuel costs to inflation, which topped 4% in May for the first time since 2023. She said that agencies cannot ask for new personnel next year, and should identify “lower priority services” that can be cut.
